The Surprising Reasons Why Cleaning & Decluttering Together May Not Work

Updated: Aug 7

A home that's completely decluttered and clean. Wouldn't that be awesome?

Not a sterile home with nothing in it.

But a warm, inviting home that is clean and has all of the things you want and need. That would be bliss (at least as far as home bliss goes).

So it's not surprising that when wanting to declutter, you would tackle them both at the same time.

When you are trying to declutter your whole home, this is a mistake.

There are a few reasons for this:

Whether or not you have 15 minutes to declutter or a whole weekend, when you are cleaning and decluttering together, your focus is split and it will be a lot easier for you to get off track and distracted.

There is also the issue of time. Even if you have a full weekend, you are not going to get as much decluttered if you are also cleaning.

And finally, cleaning and decluttering can be physically exhausting so when you are doing both together, you are bound to get tired faster.

Just focus on the decluttering - the cleaning can happen after. And when you declutter first you will have less to move to clean.

I hope this helps you on your decluttering journey.
